Plane cabin sound for sleep

Quick answer. TritonSleep includes a plane-cabin-at-cruise sound on the free tier. It is stored in the app rather than streamed, so it plays in flight mode and with the screen off. Use it on a journey or as a steady, low bed at home. Mixing more than one layer is Premium.

What the cabin sound is

An aircraft cabin at cruise is a dense, steady roar weighted towards low pitches — close to brown noise. Irregular sounds on top (announcements, trolleys, a crying child) are what wake people. A recorded cabin covers the steady part and gives a familiar mask for the rest.

TritonSleep’s Travel section also has a train carriage, a car on the motorway and a ship’s cabin. The plane cabin is the free one. Soft rain, distant ocean, light wind, soft brown noise, a 432 Hz tone and the Drift generator are free as well.

How to use it

Play it alone, or layer it. Premium mixes up to five layers and saves unlimited mixes; the free tier is one layer. A low cabin under soft rain, or a quiet cabin over a brown-noise bed, is the same idea as the fan and appliance guide. Keep the volume low enough that you could still hold a conversation over it.

Timers of 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes fade over 30 seconds to 3 minutes. Playback continues with the screen off. There is no account and no stream, so it works in a tunnel or in flight mode.

On a plane

Noise-cancelling headphones take the engine drone down; a quiet cabin track on top covers voices. Keep an ear free enough to hear crew instructions. Never use sleep sounds while driving. The seat, light, eye-mask and jet-lag notes are in the travel guide.

Price

The plane cabin is free. TritonSleep is free to download. Premium is €0.99 a month or €9.99 a year in Ireland if you want five-layer mixes, longer fades and the rest of the library.
