The journal
Open Dreams after you wake. Write the fragment you still have, or record a voice note instead of typing. One-tap chips capture what was in the dream, and you can add tags. A night screen keeps the light low. A calendar browses by night, and search finds an older entry. Export the journal when you want a copy. The microphone is requested only if you choose to record, and that audio stays on the phone.
How to build the habit is in how to keep a dream journal. If mornings are blank, why you cannot remember your dreams is the companion piece.
What is included, and what Premium adds
The dream journal itself is included with the free download. Premium adds dream signs (the people, places and things that keep coming back), a PIN lock for the journal, an overnight lucidity cue with a pre-sleep session that pairs it, and a wake-back-to-bed alarm. Premium also unlocks all guided content. MILD and dream incubation are free. Premium is €0.99 a month or €9.99 a year in Ireland.
Lucid dreaming techniques
Each technique has a guided run-through and an evidence rating, so a well studied method is not presented as the same thing as enthusiast lore. In English, the explainer has a Listen control. Spoken guidance is off until you turn it on in Settings, and those voice controls are hidden when the phone is not set to English.
- MILD, mnemonic induction, is the technique the lucid dreaming guide describes as having the best research support: set an intention to notice that you are dreaming, rehearse it, and go back to sleep.
- WBTB, wake back to bed, is a timing strategy. Sleep for about five or six hours, get up for twenty minutes to an hour while staying calm, then return to bed and use MILD, SSILD or WILD. The guide says to limit that to once or twice a week.
- SSILD, senses-initiated, cycles attention across what you see behind the eyelids, what you hear and what you feel, then you stop trying. The guide gives it a smaller evidence base.
- WILD and FILD try to carry awareness into the dream. The guide calls the evidence for WILD thin, and FILD anecdotal. Sleep paralysis can turn up with wake-initiated methods. It is harmless, and frightening if you were not expecting it.
- Dream incubation is included alongside those five, with the same style of evidence note.
Reality-check reminders can be spaced through the hours you choose, and they are scheduled on the phone. The first five days of the 30-day course are free; Premium unlocks the rest. Recall rate and lucid rate stay on the device with the rest of your session history. None of this guarantees a lucid dream on a given night.
What the app will not do
TritonSleep cannot detect when you are dreaming. An overnight cue is something you set, not something the app times to a dream. The Dreams section is for curiosity and reflection. It is not a treatment for nightmares, anxiety, insomnia or any other condition. Some of the techniques interrupt the night on purpose. If you are already sleeping badly, the wind-down side of the app is the better place to start. Sleep sounds and guided breathing with no account cover that side.
Frequently asked questions
Is the dream journal private?
Yes. Entries, voice notes and the journal stay on your phone. There is no TritonSleep account and no cloud sync. You can export it yourself. Deleting the entries, or uninstalling the app, removes them. TritonApps holds no copy.
Can I record a dream instead of typing?
Yes. A voice note is optional. The phone asks for the microphone only when you choose to record, and the audio is not sent to TritonApps.
Which lucid dreaming techniques are included?
MILD, WBTB, SSILD, WILD, FILD and dream incubation. Each has a guided run-through and an evidence rating. The guide on this site treats MILD, especially with wake back to bed, as the best supported, and WILD and FILD as thinly evidenced.
Is the dream journal free?
The journal itself is included. Premium adds dream signs, the PIN lock, overnight cues and wake-back-to-bed, and all guided content. MILD and dream incubation are free.
Does the app know when I am dreaming?
No. TritonSleep cannot detect dreaming. An overnight cue is something you set, not something the app times to a dream.
Is this a treatment for nightmares or insomnia?
No. The Dreams section is for curiosity and reflection. It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any sleep or mental-health condition.
